Silence is boring
Things have been fairly busy last few days. I'm also waiting to see what Otellini says today on day 1 of the Intel Developer Forum before my next post. I'm going to be pretty disappointed if he doesn't say something new - or show us something we haven't seen/heard of before. For the first time in a long time - strangely (& sadly) AMD has not made an attempt to upstage IDF with a big revelation of their own. I was hoping 4x4 would arrive with fanfare...

Kentsfield is not being released during IDF, only previewed. I'm guessing AMD will wait until Kentsfield is officially released. BTW, Intel can "release" Kentsfield even if neither chips or motherboards will be available for a month or more. AMD will not release a product unless it is immediately available.
Yes - but even if they have to wait a month Intel will have a quad core out over 6 months before AMD. But that's neither here nor there. What is critical is pricing and ramp. Will they take this mainstream. I'm writing a post on this now.
If u look at hkepc.com u will see that output for amd#s top FX - series will be 10-20 K the last 2 quarters this year.
U off the numbers then get a view of market-acceptance of "that price ranged cpu's" -either these are of amd or intel.
That said this range may be good for image or indication where to performance will go "next or next 2 years", but not that for sales.
...until "next year" arrives and things go mainstream (ähhh ... cheaper).
When at mainstream u must consider, even one kentsfield will take out 2 conroes of market (now they are soldered, and no die shrink will appear tomorrow at intel).
I state therefor : not before sufficient conroe production !
Which is middle of next year.
Cant we remember the timeframe from Conroe "Soldering / Paper - edition" to "Conroe on die" ?
Are the "first edition" bugs forgotten ?!
On the corporate server side there may be some keenness on it. Would u go the FBDIMM road with all their goodies, but cancelled too?
Possibly buying things that may not upgradable or replacable, just to plaese intel?
We all (except me) like caviar, but dont we live on bread and butter ?
So, what do we have:
A future outlook !
At amd a roadmap, pictures of die and wafer - BUT with a UNDISPUTED PROOVEN achitecture.
At intel two Conroes with additional logic, that demonstrates intels ability to let work 4 cores on 2 northbrige-busses.
