Cross fire is obviously targetted at the gaming/enthusiast market which is 100% Core2Duo. No serious gamer would risk being ridiculed for coming to an OC or LAN party with an Athlon based PC.
AMD has no choice but to market Crossfire with the best CPU for it. Unfortunately its not their CPU and they are forced to sell it in the face of being laughed just so they can pay their bills and endlessly try and catch up.
