Barcelona continues to have problems

AMD continues to have problems with Barcelona.

What can I say. With a launch that wasn't soon enough and production problems, all they need now is for the performance to be disappointing and they will be toast.

Did AMD say they only "do hard launches"?

or did they say they are having a "hard time launching"?

I get confused between all the powerpoint slides. Rather humorous they attempted to mock Intel's quad core as a small volume (1 million shipped in first 6 months). I guess we'll see how well AMD does in their first 6 months...

AMD should wait until they get their speedbins fixed. They are shooting themselves in the foot by releasing a product which won't be competitive performance-wise against the top bin Intel parts and the perception will be K10 is not that great (even if they crank up the speeds and it suddenly is better). AMD is pricing this low enough but once again their brand will be associated with cheaper and "value" as opposed to premium hcips worthy of higher ASP's.

It will also not be a great enough advantage over current Intel products to cause people who are in the market for a new server in Q3 to purchase one, when they can wait for either:
- higher speed AMD clocks
- Penryn

How many businesses when they introduce a new product family only release the lowest bin first?

the only thing Barcelona will accomplish at launch is stop people buying the more widely available K8's. Why would Opteron customers buy K8's when Barcelona is around. Launching a new product in limited quantities is never a good idea. I suppose AMD is being forced to show some kind of response. I can only expect Baceclona's launch to be a failure in similar magnitude as the 4x4LukeIamyouQuadfather fiasco.
